The history behind The White Hart at Chilsworthy
The white hart at Chilsworthy
Exactly when the White Hart was built is a bit of a mystery. From census records, it shows an Inn here from 1841 however, many believe the building to be much older and the two ends of the pub were originally cottages. Over the years it’s certainly had its ups and downs; locals say there’s been 2 fires although only one recorded in 1903. Tragically taking a young life, fire ripped through the pub leaving only the walls standing. With so much history here, there is of course the talk of spooky goings on and old locals still visiting the pub!
The pub welcomes locals as well as many visitors who wish to escape and explore the beautiful Tamar Valley.
With being such an old premises, the White Hart needed many improvements. Lots of work has been done both inside and out but the jobs are never ending in such an old building! Future improvements are planned for early next year and include the garden and upstairs.. – watch this space!
